BUZZ RICKSON WOOL CIVILIAN CONSERVATION CORPS JACKET - RED PLAID

BUZZ RICKSON WOOL CIVILIAN CONSERVATION CORPS JACKET - RED PLAID

This jacket, which looks nothing like a military jacket, was issued to the Civil Conservation Corps in 1935. The Corps was run during the Great Depression by unemployed men under the age of 25, and aimed to provide vocational training through camps. They worked on public works projects such as road construction and small dam construction for soil conservation, as well as national park maintenance projects such as logging and reforestation. It features a classic button-front design reminiscent of leather A-1s and olive-colored wool jackets used by the Army. Because this jacket was so rare, it's almost miraculous to come across an original. The "Quartermaster Depot" (Army Supply Depot) on the label is unmistakable proof of its military heritage.
